Abstract
Mesenchymal chondrosarcomas, especially originating from an extraskeletal site, are very rare than conventional chondrosarcomas. Of the extraskeletal locations, the meninges, brain, and thigh are the most common. Involvement of abdominal wall is a rare occurrence. Because extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma has a strong tendency to metastasize to distant sites and is relatively sensitive to chemotherapy and irradiation, adjuvant combination chemotherapy might reduce the possibility of local recurrence or distant metastasis in these tumors with unresectable primary location or invasion to adjacent structures. We report a case of extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma involving abdominal wall treated with surgical removal and postoperative chemotherapy (Cisplatin, Adriamycin). This is the first report of the tumor localized in this region in Korea.
